The session will include the following:

• What makes a successful action plan? Identifying priorities linked to whole-school improvement; creating S.M.A.R.T. targets; exploring success criteria.

• Reviewing actions for 2019/20: what progress has been made towards targets? How do you know?

• Evaluating progress to date: what has been successful and why? What barriers to progress can you identify and how might these be overcome this year?

• Considerations for academic year 2020-21: what will be the impact of school closures on pupils’ phonic skills and knowledge? What might we need to consider when creating our new action plan for 2020-21?


• Creating an effective action plan for 2020-21: addressing the impact of school closures; writing S.M.A.R.T targets; considering success criteria and reviewing opportunities for monitoring.

For those of you who attended Liz’s very successful workshop in December this will create a further opportunity to review that plan and plan actions for 20/21

During the day, there will be presentations from The Local Authority NQT Induction Manager, the Professional Associations, Head teachers and current NQTs. There will also be an introduction to the local EAL context from staff of a local Primary School and time will be allocated for the NQTs to network as they prepare for the start of their teaching career. In addition, there is the opportunity for the Induction Leader in your school or Mentor representative to join the conference.

Termly half-day meetings will provide opportunities for exploring effective leadership and discussing pedagogical approaches, particularly considering strategies which support pupil progress. The sessions aim to enable leaders to provide support for teachers to meet the demands of the curriculum across the school, whilst identifying the need to support all pupils to make progress. Why commit to keeping the ELSA accreditation?

  • ELSAs will access ongoing psychological support and updated training for a role in school which involves complex issues related to children
  • Builds capacity in schools to prevent and manage social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Accreditation status will benefit school development in relation to the mental health agenda

Code: SCH/20/74 Bridging the Gap - Communication, Language and Literacy in Reception

This half day workshop will focus on supporting children’s listening and attention, understanding and speaking to ensure children reach their full potential in the EYFS. The course will explore how to provide appropriate and rich learning opportunities for all children to support the development of their communication, language and literacy from their starting points.

The session will be led by Sally Atkinson (School Improvement Learning and Teaching Adviser, EYFS) and will include contributions from Kim Neilson (Early Childhood Specialist Communication, Language and Literacy)

This session will be interactive and will involve some movement. Please wear appropriate clothing.

Code: SCH/20/68 Bridging the Gap: Building on Progression in Reading and Writing from KS1 for Y3 and Y4 Teachers

This session will help Lower KS2 teachers identify pupils who still have significant gaps in learning from the KS1 English Programme of Study. Teachers will become familiar with the key KS1 Reading and Writing objectives which must be secured in order to ensure progress across Years 3 and Year 4.

Outline

The first part of the session will explore the key elements of the KS1 phonics and spelling curriculum and strategies for supporting pupils who may have gaps in their knowledge. Time will also be spent reviewing how the Y3/4 spelling objectives relate to spelling knowledge from Year 2.
The second part of the session will be spent identifying the key objectives from the Y2 Reading and Writing TAFs and understanding how these provide the foundation for reading and writing in lower KS2. Strategies for supporting pupils who may have gaps in their knowledge will be shared and discussed.
